KALIJAI TEMPLE - A FAMOUS TOURIST PLACE OF ODISHA

KALIJAI TEMPLE 

                  














                   Kalijai Temple is located on an island in Chilika Lake. The name Maa Kalijai is divided into two-part. One is "Kali" mean Goddess Maa Kali and the other is "Jai" is the name of a village girl of Banapur, who was drowned in the Chilika Lake during her visit to Parikuda Gada for her marriage. They were traveled in a traditional boat. Their boar was drowned their because of a sudden storm. All the boatmen and her father were alive but Jai was missing and she was undiscovered. After that many boatmen have listened to the voice of Jai. Since then she became the goddess of the locality. Many people worship Maa Kalijai as their “Kuladevi”.

                 As Kalijai is situated in Chilika Lake, many nature lovers came here to watch the beauty of nature. Chilika Lake is famous for its birds. Many birds came from Russia, Mongolia, central and southeast Asia, Ladakh and Himalaya region. These birds travel many distances came to Chilika Lake. Chlika Lake attracts birds and nature lovers. Many poets wrote much poetry on Chilika Lake and Maa Kalijai temple.

                The main festival of Maa Kalijai temple is Makar Sankranti. Every year in January, huge people came here to worship Maa Kalijai.

                If anyone plans a trip to visit  Maa Kalijai Temple and Chilika Lake, then he has to come to Balugaon. Balugaon is the nearest place. From Balugaon take a taxi or auto-rickshaw to Badakula. After that take a motorboat or traditional boat to reach Kalijai Temple.









                    Watersports facility is also available at Badakul. Speedboats are available there.

BLACK BUCK OF GANJAM - BHETANAI



             The Black Buck is an antelope found in India, Nepal, and Pakistan. In Ganjam District of India Black Bucks are mainly found in Bhetanai and its territorial villages. Bhetanai is a village 9 km. distance from Aska and 50 km. from Berhampur railway station. Black Bucks are also found in Buguda and its surrounding villages, Balipadar and its surrounding villages, Belaguntha, Tanarada, Gunthapoda and its surrounding villages.

             When Black Buck stands up it is 30 to 35 in high at the shoulder. Males weigh 35 to 55 kg. and females are lighter than male, weigh about 25 to 35 kg. Male Black Buck has a horn but the female hasn’t. The long ringed horns length up to 15-30 inch. The male Black Buck looks different than female. The male Black Bucks upper parts and outer sides of the legs are dark brown to black, the underparts and the insides of the legs are all white. On the other hand, females are juveniles are yellowing fawn to tan.

              Black Bucks are leaving in groups. One group consist of 15 to 50 Black Bucks. Every group has a male Black Buck leader. To become the leader of a group male Black Bucks are fighting with each other. The winner of the fight becomes the leader of that group.

             The Black Bucks inhabits grassy plains and slightly forested areas. Due to their regular need for water, they prefer areas where water is available.

             Forest department take a major role to protect these animals. But the main thing that the local people of the villages took a major part to protect them. Without them, Black Bucks cannot survive.  The farmer s of those villages suffers more. Black Bucks eat their crops. The government takes necessary steps to protect Black Bucks but didn’t take any steps towards farmer’s loss because of Black Bucks.

           If anybody interested to visit and want to see the Black Bucks then come to Bhetanai. Bus facility always available in this village. ATM is only 2 km. distance. All necessary things are available in this village. Guide facility also available.
